JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - The special election for the Senate District 26 seat will head to a runoff. The two candidates who advanced are Kamesha Mumford and Letitia Johnson.

With just more than 39% of the vote in the special election, Mumford said getting out and campaigning has been one of the best experiences of her life.

“I am ready to move forward, get back out with the voters, canvass, knock on doors, make phone calls and just really get our message out to the citizens of Senate District 26," she said.

Johnson got almost 28% of the vote. Both candidates are turning their attention to the runoff election.
