Three West Valley police departments are teaming to host the first-ever Unified Citizens Academy, a one-day event giving Special Olympics athletes a hands-on look at law enforcement work.

The Goodyear, Peoria and Glendale police departments will hold the academy 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Glendale Regional Public Safety Training Center, 11550 W. Glendale Ave.

About 20 to 25 athletes are expected to participate in the event, which will feature interactive sessions on arrest control, traffic stops and safety, building clearing, and virtual training scenarios.

The day will also include a lunch break with a helicopter display from the Peoria Police Department and a K-9 demonstration. The event will conclude with a graduation ceremony, where West Valley police chiefs will present
