Orchard Park, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills previously didn’t make any trades before Tuesday’s deadline, but general manager Brandon Beane was busy on Wednesday morning.

The Bills announced that they’ve signed defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis to the 53-man roster. Mathis, who’s spent the past two months on the team’s practice squad, takes the roster spot left vacant by injured defensive end Michael Hoecht.

Mathis was elevated from the practice squad for last Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He played 14 snaps (23%) and finished with one tackle in the Bills’ 28-21 win over Kansas City. According to Pro Football Focus, Mathis was Buffalo’s third-worst defender, finishing with an overall grade of 49.6/100.
