OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is mourning the loss of a giraffe Wednesday morning.
The zoo posted to social media in memory of Zola the giraffe Wednesday. According to the post, workers made the decision to euthanize Zola on Tuesday due to ongoing gastrointestinal issues.
Henry Doorly says the decision came after extensive care and treatment efforts failed.
In the post, the zoo writes that Zola’s “gentle nature captured the hearts of many.”
Zola birthed a calf, Hope, in her time at the zoo. She was also known to be a frequent greeter for guests visiting the Giraffe Encounter exhibit.
Since 2017, Zola created more than 470 paintings, raising more than $20,000. The zoo says if you have a giraffe hoof print hanging in your home, there’s a good chance Zola was
