COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it is participating in the Ohio Blue Envelope Program, a new statewide initiative aimed at helping people with developmental disabilities during traffic stops and emergencies.

The program is designed to improve communication and reduce anxiety for drivers who may have difficulty interacting with law enforcement. Participants are encouraged to keep a blue envelope in their vehicle, which holds important documents, such as a driver's license, registration and insurance, along with information about their condition and any communication preferences.

Troopers said the envelope allows officers to quickly understand how to best interact with the driver, ensuring a calmer and safer experience for everyone involved.
