MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —

A Marshalltown man is behind bars after an investigation into multiple fires over the weekend.

Marshalltown police say emergency responders were called to a vehicle fire behind the Salvation Army in the 100 block of West State Street shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. Shortly after that, crews responded to a residence on fire in the 100 block of North 2nd Street. Another fire was reported two blocks west on North 4th Street less than an hour later.

Two more fires were reported Saturday night, and damage was found at a residence Monday from a fire that is believed to have been set Saturday night, according to police.

Investigators identified a suspect in the case and arrested him Tuesday. He has been identified as Alan Herman Bonin, 54, of Marshalltown.
