The 49ers pulled off four trades in the past five months.

General manager John Lynch beat the NFL trading deadline by seven days when he completed a deal to acquire defensive lineman Keion White from the New England Patriots.

He should have waited a week to avoid the appearance that the 49ers did nothing while there were moves aplenty across the NFL.

Despite multiple national reports of the 49ers’ aggressiveness in pursuing high-profile trade targets, the team did not make a deal on Tuesday.

It was not exactly a surprise.

Coach Kyle Shanahan outlined his preference — and the preference of everyone in the building — a couple of weeks ago.
