CLEVELAND — Health officials and researchers are highlighting several important health topics, from rising insurance costs to new findings on brain health and dementia prevention.
Health insurance costs set to increase
Open enrollment through the Affordable Care Act is underway, but concerns are growing about rising health insurance costs for low-income families. Federal subsidies that help reduce premiums are at the center of ongoing budget discussions in Washington.
The Kaiser Family Foundation found that ACA insurers are raising premiums approximately 26 percent next year. Average monthly costs could increase from $888 to over $1,900 annually if federal subsidies expire. Currently, 92 percent of enrollees use these subsidies to help lower their monthly costs.
