KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There are several free events this fall to help women build self-defense and awareness skills.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is hosting a free women's self-defense class in December.

The sheriff's office said this session is for women and girls 16 and up. It's free to the public.

The class will be held at the JCSO Training Building (18505 W 119th St, Olathe, KS 66061) on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Additionally, the Merriam Police Department is hosting a women's situational awareness workshop in November. Attendees will discover practical ways to stay alert, make smart choices and feel more confident wherever you go.
