South Australia's childcare regulator has cancelled the registration of just one provider in recent years and almost 10,000 reported incidents resulted in no action, documents obtained under Freedom of Information show.

The figures, obtained by the ABC, showed 10 providers were slapped with suspensions, and four were issued with show cause notices.

The Education Standards Board (ESB), which operates independently of the state government, did not launch any prosecutions between January 2020 and October 2024.

It follows an investigation by Four Corners, which exposed regulatory failures were placing children at risk and allowing predators to operate in the childcare industry .
