Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered that flags on all New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff following the death of former U.S. Vice President Richard “Dick” Bruce Cheney. This took effect immediately and will remain in place through the date of his interment.
“I am directing flags across New York State to be lowered in honor of Dick Cheney, our former vice president and lifelong public servant,” Hochul said in a statement. “I extend my deepest sympathies to the Cheney family as we remember his life, leadership, and patriotism.”
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and raised in Casper, Wyoming, Cheney passed away on Nov. 3, 2025, due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, his family said in a statement. He served as the 46th vice president of the United
