BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating a shooting involving an officer after a robbery call Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Batesburg-Leesville.
According to SLED, Batesburg-Leesville Police officers were dispatched to the Enmarket gas station on West Columbia Avenue for a reported robbery. When the first officer arrived, he said saw the suspect taking money from the register and went into the store.
SLED says a physical struggle followed. During that altercation, the suspect took the officer’s TASER and used it against him, and also attempted to get the officer’s gun. The firearm discharged during the encounter, but no one was hit.
