(WANE) -- The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has announced that November SNAP benefits will be delayed for Indiana households.
The USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has given updated directions to the Indiana FSSA on allotment of benefits for each Indiana household's needs. By using a "revised formula," this will determine the maximum amount of benefits each household will get.
Before, SNAP benefits were calculated by assuming households spent around 30% of their income on food. In the revised formula, SNAP benefits are calculated by subtracting that 30% of the household's net income from the federally determined amount.
The FNS has halved the federally determined maximum allotment for each household.
