TOWN OF PAMELIA, New York (WWNY) - When crashes happen, emergency crews often close the road for an hour or two to investigate and clean up the scene.

So why was Route 283 in the town of Pamelia closed for more than 15 hours after a pickup truck hit a utility pole?

The crash happened at around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Both lanes of traffic were closed from Lafave Road in the town of LeRay to Patterson Road in the town of Pamelia.

The highway didn’t reopen until around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to Captain Scott Alexander with the Northpole Fire Company, the pole and its live cables fell in the road.

In addition, oil spilled from a transformer.
