GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville city leaders have announced that more affordable housing for low-income residents will be coming soon.

Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of a project to build an affordable duplex at 806/808 NW Third Ave., Gainesville.

The Bright Community Trust has collaborated with the City of Gainesville for over four years, working to provide homes for low-income families.

The definition of affordable housing varies among people. TV20 spoke with Frank Wells, the director of the Bright Community Trust, to find out what it means.

“A low-income family might earn around $60,000 a year, especially if they have children,” Wells explained.

To qualify for purchasing one of the homes or the duplex, individuals must have an income no greater than 80
