RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Richmond golf nonprofit organization won a national award for its work in helping underserved and underrepresented youth within the community.
First Tee – Greater Richmond is a nonprofit organization that uses golf as a platform to "strengthen the character of our community," according to the organization's website.
"In teaching life lessons and leadership skills in a fun, group setting for youth ages 5-18, regardless of background or previous experience, our courses build character," the website reads.
According to a Nov. 5 press release, First Tee – Greater Richmond was awarded the Barbara A. Douglas and Dr. William J. Powell Community Award. This award was named after two golf pioneers. Douglas was the first minority chair of the USGA Women’s Committee, and
