California Republicans filed a lawsuit on Wednesday to challenge Proposition 50, the Democrat-led initiative to impose gerrymandered Congressional districts on the state.
Asm. David Tangipa (R–Clovis) was among the plaintiffs, joining with the California Republican Party, the Dhillon Law Group and others.
Driving the news: California voters largely supported Prop. 50 on Tuesday. While the state takes weeks to count votes, the measure was passing with around 64% support on election night. • Prop. 50 throws out the maps drawn by the independent California Citizens Redistricting Commission. In its place, Prop. 50 implements a new Congressional map designed to help Democrats pick up five seats in California. Republicans currently only hold nine of California’s 52 Congressional seats.
