**Murderer of Toddler Found Dead in Prison Cell** Kyle Bevan, a 33-year-old man convicted of murdering two-year-old Lola James, has died in prison. Bevan was serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years for the brutal attack on the toddler at her home in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on July 17, 2020. His death was confirmed on November 5, 2023, at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire, where he had been incarcerated for two and a half years. A spokesperson for the prison service stated, "HMP Wakefield prisoner Kyle Bevan’s death was confirmed on November 5. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate." During his trial at Swansea Crown Court in 2023, jurors were presented with harrowing evidence of the violence inflicted on Lola. The court heard that she suffered injuries akin to those seen in serious car crashes, with a total of 101 injuries, including severe brain damage and catastrophic retinal damage. Bevan initially claimed that Lola's injuries were accidental, suggesting she fell down the stairs after being knocked over by the family dog. However, the evidence contradicted his account. Lola was rushed to Withybush Hospital but tragically died four days later, on July 21, 2020, without regaining consciousness. Bevan, who pleaded not guilty, was ultimately convicted of murder. Lola’s mother, Sinead James, was also sentenced to six years in prison for allowing or causing the death of a child. At the time of the incident, James and Bevan had been in a relationship for a few months after meeting on Facebook. Judge Mr Justice Griffiths described Bevan's actions as "sustained, deliberate and very violent," highlighting the use of weapons during the assault. He remarked that the attack represented an "exercise of power" over a defenceless child, noting Bevan's lack of remorse throughout the trial. The police are now investigating Bevan’s death in custody, with oversight from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman. This incident follows the death of former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, who also died while imprisoned at HMP Wakefield in October.
