SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is warning residents to stay alert for scammers as Winter Weather Preparedness Week begins across the state.
Many Missourians are scheduling furnace and HVAC tune-ups or contracting for roof, insulation, and heating system repairs as temperatures drop. Scammers often exploit these seasonal needs to trick consumers into unnecessary or overpriced repairs.
The Better Business Bureau advises consumers on how to avoid scammers who try to profit from bad weather conditions.
Consumers who believe they have been scammed should call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline or contact the Better Business Bureau to file a report.
