LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/AP) - First responders continued searching for more victims Wednesday after a UPS cargo plane crashed and exploded in a massive fireball at the company’s global aviation hub in Kentucky.
At least 11 people were killed, including a child, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced during a Wednesday afternoon briefing.
Approximately 16 other families reported loved ones who were unaccounted for.
An NTSB spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the left engine detached from the wing during takeoff. Videos from witnesses show the engine was on fire at the time of departure, according to officials.
