NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A licensed marital and family therapist from Wethersfield was arrested on Oct. 22 and charged with submitting false claims that allegedly netted her $141,087 in Medicaid payments she did not earn.

Ivette Betancourt, 60, was taken into custody by inspectors from the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, according to a release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Betancourt is charged with one count of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and one count of health insurance fraud.

The arrest warrant affidavit for Betancourt’s arrest alleges that between October 2020 and June 2025, she billed Medicaid for therapy sessions that never occurred.
