Clark County, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — After a fire broke out at West Union Cafe, owner Kaycee Adams said the building is a complete loss.
Adams said the fire started when a charbroiler was turned on and caught fire, and before employees could stop it, the flames reached the exhaust and began burning the roof.
She said around three employees and five customers were in the building, but fire officials said no one was hurt.
Adams said the restaurant has been around for so long, she is sad to see memories of people at West Union Cafe get taken away.
"This isn't just a restaurant", Adams said. "That's one thing that my husband and I spoke about, there are so many memories in these walls from people that are gone, their laughs, their stories. It's hard to know it's a total loss. I would rather ha
