WASHINGTON, D.C. — Look to the sky on any given day in Louisville and you’re bound to see a plane bearing the UPS logo.

UPS Worldport, the shipping company’s largest air hub and the city’s largest employer, is as much of a part of Louisville as the Kentucky Derby.

From the Senate floor Wednesday, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., called Tuesday night’s crash of a UPS plane just beyond the runway of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport a “gut punch” for the people of his hometown.

“Louisville is home to logistics experts, warehouse workers, aircraft crew and maintenance,” said McConnell. “They take pride in their work, and their community takes pride in them. That’s why this crash cuts so deep.”
