The morning after her decisive election victory, Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill met with Gov. Phil Murphy at the Statehouse in Trenton.
Sherrill, a fourth-term congressmember, beat her Republican opponent Jack Ciattarelli Tuesday and became the second woman — and the first for the Democratic Party — to secure the governorship.
Murphy made it clear that he is “thrilled” for Sherrill and her running mate Dale Caldwell on their “huge historic victory.”
“A big night beyond just the governor’s race, including down ballot, in many corners of the state and obviously a big wave nationally as well,” he said.
The governor said that now attention will turn toward the transition to make it the “most successful one in our state’s history.”
