DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – The familiar sound of ringing bells and the sight of red kettles are back as the Salvation Army kicks off its annual Christmas Campaign.
This year, leaders said the need is greater than ever.
Major Randall Summit at the Macon County Salvation Army said this marks his third Christmas season in Decatur, and while the community has always rallied around its neighbors, the growing demand for help has been clear.
“It’s an exciting time,” Summit said. “We’ve seen our programs grow, and with that comes more need. Our food pantry has more than doubled. We’re now seeing over 100 families every time we open our doors.”
The Salvation Army’s food pantry operates every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on the third Saturday morning of each month. Summit
