CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - For the first time, the highly anticipated USA and Canada rivalry series is coming to Cleveland.

Thursday’s game at Rocket Arena holds special significance for Team USA player Laila Edwards.

Edwards grew up in Cleveland Heights, and had a recent injury scare that she initially thought would keep her out of the series.

The University of Wisconsin senior injured her knee on Oct. 11, but surprisingly was able to return to the ice just after a few weeks.

“Just the thought for a second that I wasn’t going to be able to be a part of it was tough,” Edwards said. “But I was still planning on showing up just to be there for my team and the community as well.”
