ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A crumbling warehouse in midtown St. Louis is being torn down after catching fire 10 weeks ago and becoming a safety hazard.
The building, which housed the former JJ’s nightclub near 64th and Vandeventer, was condemned after the fire left it with no roof and caving walls. Despite the dangerous conditions, squatters continued to get inside the structure.
The city said Green Street, the building’s owner, has taken action to tear down the fire-damaged portion of the warehouse.
The demolition comes weeks after questions were raised about the danger the condemned building posed to the community.
