ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The St. Louis County Council is expressing concerns with the county’s public health director, Dr. Kanika Cunningham, and her leadership of St. Louis County’s Animal Adoption Center.
In February, the county took back control of the shelter from the APA, putting an end to a 5-year contract after only a couple of years.
Then, in April, a parvovirus outbreak at the shelter led to 19 dogs being euthanized, a decision that drew public outcry and led to an investigation by the county’s ethics committee.
Late last week, the committee released its report, filled with allegations and findings of lack of leadership, communication and questioned Dr. Cunningham’s ability to successfully lead the shelter. Following the release of the report, the county council voted 6
