BLOOMINGTON – Welcome to a new era of Indiana basketball. Tonight, we get our first real glimpse of what the Hoosiers will look like under coach Darian DeVries.

It has been a bit of an odd preseason for IU basketball. Especially with a new coach getting ready to lead the program for the first time, hype around the program usually would have reached a fever pitch by mid-October and everyone would have been looking forward to tonight's opener against Alabama A&M for weeks.

Instead, the basketball preseason has been overshadowed pretty severely by the performance of the football team, which checked in at No. 2 in the first College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday and has stolen much of the spotlight the basketball team usually occupies.

That's not necessarily a bad development for DeVries
