BLOOMINGTON – It’s practically a tradition at Indiana: Coaching debuts are never easy.

Mike Woodson’s tenure started with a battle to the end against Eastern Michigan. Archie Miller got blown out by Indiana State. Tom Crean, Kelvin Sampson and Mike Davis struggled to pull away from cupcake opponents.

Even Bob Knight started inauspiciously, barely slipping past Ball State in his debut. Entering Wednesday night, the Hoosiers’ record for margin of victory in a coaching debut was 30 and that had not been accomplished since 1920.
