Travelers at Ted Stevens International Airport are voicing frustration and uncertainty as the ongoing government shutdown raises fears of a potential airspace closure.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday it will reduce flight capacity by 10% at 40 major airports across the country, starting Friday. The move aims to maintain safety amid limited federal staffing, but it could cause widespread flight delays and cancellations.
Heather Hoyt, waiting for her flight at the Anchorage airport, said she never imagined the shutdown would last this long. "I booked this ticket months ago and I thought, well, if the government shuts down, certainly it's not going to last that long. And I just am shocked that it's gone this long," said Hoyt.
