HOWARD, S.D. (KELO) -- A longtime family-run grocery store in Howard is teaming up with multiple organizations to distribute meals throughout their small town.

Rusty's Food Store is making this holiday season a little easier for families in need.

The Meals for the Hungry Program was started by Rusty's supplier.

"I decided I would sign up for it," Rusty's Food Store owner Katy Hiltunen said. "Our small town is in need of some help."

Hiltunen launched the program on Monday.

"What it entails is a $10 bag of groceries, nonperishable food. We purchase the groceries, we put the bags together and we rely on our community to purchase the bags so we can donate back," Hiltunen said.

The store says it has already received enough donations to fill 200 boxes.
