LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On fire during takeoff, UPS flight 2976 hurtled by Kentucky Truck Parts & Service late Tuesday evening.
“It was like a hurricane with fire," Sobit Aliyev said, adding that oil tanks around the industrial business blew afterwards and added to the heat. He co-owns the business he had to abandon. Fire began closing in on him.
“We ran out. I was thinking, 'last moments,' so maybe we record it," Aliyev said.
Only cleanup crews made it through the police blockade towards the crash site where airplane gas and industrial oil burned the day before. Its smoke haunted Louisville.
