EUGENE — The top 20 showdown between Oregon and Iowa features a clash of extreme special teams strengths.
The No. 20 Hawkeyes have the nation’s kick return yardage leader in Kaden Wetjen, the only player to have both a punt and kickoff return touchdown this season.
No team has held opponents to fewer punt return yards than the No. 9 Ducks, who have held opponents to minus-1 yard on two returns thanks to the addition of All-American punter James Ferguson-Reynolds.
Against the school with the motto “punting is winning,” Oregon may get to put that to the test amid a battle of top 10 defenses in what is forecast to be cold and wet conditions.
Keeping the ball away from Wetjen, who has five career return touchdowns – three punt, two kickoff, will be a critical aspect of Saturday’s game.
