MACON, Ga. — Macon-Bibb County is distributing $150,000 to 11 food banks across the region as local organizations report increased demand from families struggling with food insecurity.

Mother's Nest, one of the recipients, primarily serves mothers but provides assistance to anyone seeking help. Crystal Eddy, who works at the facility and is a single mother herself, said the funding comes at a critical time.

"Most of these moms count on this resource just to make it through," Eddy said. "If I'd had this when I had my children, I think that things would've been a little bit easier."

Eddy described turning away people who have walked miles for assistance because supplies have run low, sometimes having to provide significantly reduced portions.
