PAYNEWAY, Ark. —
Former Boston Celtics player Tony Allen is facing charges after he was arrested in Arkansas for drug possession, police said.
Allen was pulled over Wednesday near Payneway, Arkansas, while traveling northbound on Interstate 555, Poinsett County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies approached the driver, William Hatton, and Allen, who was in the passenger seat.
Both men were asked to step outside the car after deputies said a strong marijuana odor was emanating from the vehicle.
According to police, a search of Allen turned up a package of marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed "multiple items of drug paraphernalia," including a "green leafy substance" that Hatton confirmed to police was his.
The search also turned up a cigarette box in the passenger seat
