SOMERVILLE, Mass. —

Several Massachusetts cities, including Somerville, Brockton and Everett, saw the election of new mayors Tuesday evening, ushering in new futures for communities.

In Somerville, mayor-elect Jake Wilson promised an open door at City Hall.

"The people are going to be my bosses when I'm mayor of this city. I'll never forget that," Wilson said. "I'm not going to put up walls and close doors and shut myself off from them."

Wilson, the at-large city councilor, beat a fellow councilor for the mayoralty.

Wilson says he wants to tackle the rat problem, find solutions for homelessness and support good jobs.

"We need someone to come in and just make sure we tighten things up and provide the programs and services that people rely on," Wilson said.
