HANSON, Mass. —
Teachers and parents packed the Whitman-Hanson High School auditorium on Wednesday night, demanding answers after learning the school district is short $1.4 million and needs to cut 25 jobs.
Superintendent Jeff Syzmaniak and Acting Business Manager Brian Hyde stood in front of a packed auditorium trying to explain the sudden monetary shortfall.
"The responsibility ultimately lies with me," Syzmaniak said. "Looking back how we got here, it is clear that I didn't maintain a close enough watch over our payroll in [fiscal year] 25, or ensure that our staffing and salary projections were accurately aligned with the line items in the 26 budget."
