TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Bainbridge boys cross country team is headed to state this weekend. The Bearcats led in part by senior Gambler Dollar, who’s having his best season yet.
“Heading into my seventh grade year, my mom told me, you’re going to try cross country,” recalled Dollar of his introduction to the sport. “I thought, I have no idea what that is. No kid wants to spend their whole summer running.”
“He took off sprinting for a pace sport and died out and got lost on the trail,” laughed head coach Eric Conner. “I had to go find him. We were about thirty minutes late getting back to where the group was.”
In the years since, Dollar has learned to pace himself.
“My eighth grade year, I started competing for medals and wins. It just kind of clicked.”
But it hasn’t always come
