CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- The government shutdown is officially the longest in U.S. history, reaching its 36th day Wednesday.
When it started, WCIA 3 sat down with University of Illinois political science professor Brian Gaines. Now, we asked him about the shutdown again.
“Public opinion hasn't swung around very decisively to place the blame,” said Gaines. “Maybe there are still some on both sides who are not panicking and are saying there are bad consequences coming and they'll be good for our party because they'll be bad for the other party.”
When the shutdown first started, Gaines said healthcare was the main thing the parties couldn't agree on. He's saying it's still a sticking point.
