NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Three staff members are on leave after a parent reported a part-time staff member for giving students an unauthorized over-the-counter medication.

“New Haven Public School’s policy is clear: school nurses are solely responsible for distributing prescription or over-the-counter medication to students and other staff members are not permitted to do so under any circumstances,” the school said in a joint statement with the New Haven Police Department.

A parent is alleging that a part-time staff member in an early childhood program provided students with an unauthorized over-the-counter medication that caused the child to feel drowsy.

NHPS reported the accusation to the Department of Children and Families who then referred the case to the New Haven Police Departmen
