EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - This is the time of year the Wisconsin State Patrol says it is extra important to look out for deer on the roads.

In 2024 there were more than 17,000 reported crashes with deer in Wisconsin. Nine people were killed and over 700 were injured.

In the Chippewa Valley, Eau Claire County reported 229 deer crashes in 2024, 242 in Chippewa County, and 82 reported in Dunn County. St. Croix County reported the third highest amount of deer crashes in the state with 791.

Deer are most active in the spring during the baby season and in the fall during the rut. That's in late October through November when bucks are looking for mates.
