KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville native and University of Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop has been nominated for a national player award amid is breakout campaign on Rocky Top.

The redshirt sophomore has been nominated for the 2025 Burlsworth Trophy, a national award honoring the best player in college football who began his career as a walk-on.

Bishop emerged as a leader in the Tennessee backfield this season. He currently ranks fifth in the SEC with 690 rushing yards and his nine rushing touchdowns are the third-most in the conference.

His high school career ranks among the most prolific in the history of Tennessee high school football. He ran for over 8,000 yards and 100 touchdowns at Karns High School, ranking second and third all time in state history, according to the TSSA
