NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) — A student of Cocke County High School was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into a reported bomb threat.
The school was evacuated Wednesday morning while law enforcement agencies searched the area with K-9 bomb dogs. No threat was detected and all school activities resumed normally.
A subsequent investigation by Cocke County Sheriff's Office detectives and the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male student on a threats of mass violence charge. He was transported to Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center in Knoxville.
"Every threat to our schools, staff, and students are a top priority and we will work until those responsible are held accountable by the law," Cocke County Sheriff CJ Ball said in a statement
