UMATILLA, Ore. – Voters in Umatilla have given their approval for a measure to build a new police station in the city.
The bond will be funded through a shared tax rate of 27 cents for every $1,000 of assessed property value. This will be collected from both businesses and residents over a 20-year period.
The city has stated that corporations in the Greater Umatilla Enterprise Zone will shoulder the majority of the cost. This means residents and other businesses will only need to cover the remaining 6.5%
For the median property owner in Umatilla, this amounts to about $35 annually.
Once the election results are certified, the city plans to proceed with finalizing the design, permits and bidding for the new police station.
