PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WITN) - Crystal Davis made history Tuesday night when she was elected as Plymouth’s first Black female mayor, defeating incumbent Brian Roth in a three-way race.
Davis won 364 votes compared to Roth’s 301 votes and candidate Mark Sexton’s 173 votes in the small Eastern Carolina town.
“I’m an average person, but I’ve made history in Plymouth,” Davis told WITN.
Davis, who currently serves as a town councilmember, said she is ready to bring change to Plymouth’s leadership.
“We know that it’s a shift in power, so we want to move from what is typical and shift back to regular people,” Davis said.
Her supporters gathered at Casa Garcia Mexican Restaurant on Wednesday to celebrate the historic win.
“She is a fighter and I’m gonna stand right behind her,” Supporter Terri Pitt
