MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Dane County Board of Supervisors has approved a compromise version of its 2026 operating budget, known as Sub 1, following weeks of debate over how to close a $31 million shortfall while maintaining funding for key community programs.
The substitute amendment restores part of the 4% cuts originally proposed in the county executive’s budget, directing unspent funds back into human-services agencies and shelter operations that serve vulnerable residents. The move was supported by community organizations, including MOSES and JustDane, which rallied before Wednesday night’s meeting at the City-County Building.
