NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York City woke up to a new mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani.

He says his focus right now is on building an ethical, capable team to deliver on the promises he made to voters.

“Some of these people will have familiar names and others will not, but what will unite them is a commitment to solving old problems with new solutions.” Said Mamdani. Those “solutions,” he says, start with his key campaign priorities: free childcare, affordable housing, and tackling the cost of living. Reverend Al Sharpton says that the last one struck a chord with voters.

“Those kinds of kitchen table issues, the core of his campaign, that was only helped by the contrast of what Donald Trump was doing nationally.”
