EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Thursday marks 20 years since Indiana’s deadliest tornado to ever touch down in November happened right here in the Tri-State.
25 people died, many more were hurt, and hundreds of homes were damaged.
We spoke with some of those who were working here at 14 News at the time, and covered what happened.
In the early hours of November 6, 2005, Shannon Samson, a reporter for 14 News at the time, was leaving a bar in Newburgh and couldn’t get home.
The streets were covered with destruction from the tornado.
“The assignment editor at Channel 14, Scott Galloway, called and he said ‘We’re gonna send a truck’. And that morning, I did live shots all over the country,” Samson said.
She remembers learning of the immense devastation while on air.
