GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County officials are spending thousands of dollars to support food banks in the area, and they’re asking Gainesville city leaders to match them.
At Tuesday’s meeting, county commissioners approved $200,000 to go toward the “Bread of the Mighty Food Bank” and other organizations.
This fills a gap for families on food stamps while the federal government is shut down.
Snap recipients are only getting half their November benefits, which will also be coming in late.
Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward urged people to donate to food banks in the area.
